Vertical distribution of stains, oils and glazes on profile timbers

Axel Wirth Maschinen GmbH is renowned for producing the best glue application machines, oil application machines and paint application machines for use in the craftsman and production industry. Its reputation also extends to surface coatings in the furniture and flooring industry.

Oiling, staining, lye application and painting have been among the main tasks of machines from Axel Wirth Maschinen GmbH for 30 years.

But oils, stains and glazes on profile surfaces also need to be distributed.

To do this, a special universal machine has been developed that can be used for distribution with virtually all profiles.

Stains, oils and glazes can be distributed vertically thanks to many years of experience and the proven-in-practice design of the machinery. And all this with economic costs and exceptional quality of the end products.

The pressure pad brushes move the material to be coated into position, transporting it quickly and gently through the coating system. The subsequent distributor unit ensures a perfect finish. Our systems are able to process profiles as well as laths.

Upon request, the assemblies can be custom-configured in accordance with the client's requirements and if necessary even tried out in the test workshop.

Primer application with rollers

Primer application is a challenge in many industries. They’re distinguished between water-based primers and solvent based primers. Axel Wirth Maschinen GmbH offers different solutions for those types of primer.

1. Water-based primer:

Application of the primer, using a dosing roller machine type DWO. The primer is being pumped into the rollers and circulates within the machine. When using the machine in hot environments, the viscosity can be measured and automatically adapted. Rubber coated rollers, are being used for that, which can be smooth, grooved or porous, depending on the desired application amount. Following that, a infra-red dryer can be patched in. Our machines are currently being used with the following water-based applications in the

  • Printing primer
  • Primer for the footwear industry
  • Primer for plastic material edges

2. Solvent-based Primer:

Using solvent based primers will become necessary in different fields. Challenges resulting from that were mastered by us multiple times in the past. Following things need to be considered:

Explosion protection of the plant, or EX-protection of roller coating machines in short. The solvent-based primers usually have an extremely low flashpoint, that makes the usage of EX-protected motors, sensors, circuitry, etc. necessary. We can assure this also in cooperation with specialized audit companies. This of course does have it’s price, but sometimes it’s not possible otherwise.

Keeping the viscosity stable. As additional point, it needs to be considered, that the solvents volatilize and thus the viscosity will change. That’s why it’s mandatory to monitor the viscosity and to adapt it with the addition of solvent. Otherwise you take the risk of the application amount changing through the change in viscosity.

Solvent-based primers and the rubber coating of rollers.Depending on the producer of the primer and the type of primer, the mixture of the solvents are a challenge for the rubber mixtures of the roller coaters. We always examine the compatibility of the rubber mixtures and the used primers in advance. Currently we got over 80 different rubber mixtures in use, so mostly a existing rubber can be found for the different types of primer.

Glue spreaders for PU adhesive, 1KPU or 2KPU

Under conditional general conditions, cold PU adhesives, glue spreaders, 1KPU, 2KPU, roller application by glue spreaders or roller application can be rolled on with repeat accuracy.

The rollers can be removed for cleaning and can be made chemically resistant to the cleaners. With a rubber selection based on six different basic rubber types, our team will find the right rubber for cold PU adhesives and their cleaners.

In addition to the basic rubber types, we have well over 100 different roller surfaces in use with customers.

Due to the variety of roller surfaces and the adjustment possibilities on the machines, application weights of 5 - 800 g/m² are possible.

The glue application machines from Wirth are very easy to dismantle and clean. This is especially advantageous for PU adhesives.

The main parts of the machine are made of stainless steel and therefore insensitive.

The wealth of experience grows from day to day. In addition to regular tests at our company, a large number of machines are also running in the laboratories of glue manufacturers.

The team at Axel Wirth Maschinen is always in contact with developers and application engineers from renowned manufacturers of glues, adhesives, primers and PU adhesives.

Suitable for applying cold PU adhesives are the machine types LW 100 and LW 120 or the dosing roller machine type DWO 120.

Every customer can take advantage of the opportunity to test the glue spreader with their own PU glue at our premises in Oberkochen.

In our Demonstration room or test workshop sample productions can be manufactured and tested close to reality.

Thus, every customer can see and test the steps of mixing, applying and cleaning. Likewise, different application quantities with different roller surfaces can be shown. The customer gets exactly what he has seen and tested in advance..

Axel Wirth Maschinen GmbH has offered machines on the market for oiling furniture components for many years.

The biggest problem for the furniture customers are the edges. In close cooperation with an oil manufacturer, a machine combination has now been put into operation, oiling veneer before bonding.

This combination might look differently, depending on type of oil and oil producer.
