Coating stoneware as a functional coating - almost infinite possibilities

The stoneware industry is constantly developing in many areas, and machines from Axel Wirth Maschinen GmbH are often used. In order to be able to coat stoneware, you first need the application medium and the right vision, and we will be happy to do the rest for you.

The production of building materials has its challenges. In addition to heavy and hard workpieces, the production environments in stoneware production are completely different from those in furniture production, for example. We have adapted to this and have developed and supplied several solutions for different fields.

Our roller applicators are used Depending on the type of liquid, its viscosity and the desired application weight, we use smooth, grooved or open-pore rollers.

The rubber compounds have to be extremely abrasion-resistant and flexible, which is why we use over 80 different rubber compounds that can also be sandwiched together.

In sandwich construction, we use sponge rubber on the metal core of the roller, which is then covered again with a smooth rubber.

In this way, we achieve a smooth roller surface that is flexible enough to allow good wetting of bevels.

Coating tiles with glue – 1,5kg tiles-glue/m²

Besides working with wood, plastics, metal, foamed materials, and many other materials, we now successfully have put several projects with concrete sludge and tile glue into operation. For this purpose, the tiles are coated with glue and then laid onto the carrier material.

Our machines have previously already been used to apply glue on tiles, but mainly in manufacturing works. This time, we’ve arrived in the industry. With exact process times, automatic weighing and handling robots.

Usually, the requirement is, to apply as few as possible onto the material. But this time it’s different.

We have achieved, to apply 1,5kg / m². It was a bit special.

The constant supply of glue was our biggest challenge here. We got to know new components, which were quite rustic in their composition and in their fine-tuning. But we managed it, our machine pumped the viscous glue amounts continuously into itself and the safety of production was absolutely given.

The requirements for the stoneware and tile industry are very different than those of the wood industry, that’s why our machines had a hard task, which they mastered.

Besides glues, paints and print primers, our customers also process stone impregnations and lotus effect pastes on stoneware. This also worked on stone boards with deep bevels.

Coating tiles – Roller procedure

The company Axel Wirth Maschinen produces plants for coating of glues, but also the coating of oils, glues and paints in the rolling procedure. How significant our customers requirements can change, becomes evident on the example of coating of ceramic tiles. In cooperation with the company Schönox GmbH, Rosendahl, Axel Wirth Maschinen GmbH developed a procedure to coat wall and floor tiles on their back side, using a wax emulsion. Thanks to this coat, tiles of the Dutch producer can now safely be glued, both with plastic glues and mineral, cement bonded mortar. The thing of our procedure is, that said tiles can, even after years, residue-free be removed from it’s carriers surface, without damaging it. This brings many advantages for the whole renovation building area!

The tiles will be coated with our roller applicator system DDWO120, reverse machine. This type of machine uses two, from each other independent adjustable roller applicators, which are plugged one after another.
Therewith, even the most challenging coating demands can be met and the customers requests and wishes optimally fulfilled.
Thanks to it’s robust, durable and top-quality construction, the roller applicator system DDWO120 is leading in terms of process safety and reproduction of stable and continuous production results. The liquid coating material can, depending on the demand, be pumped in a circuit with a membrane pump. For adjustments, small sizes and internal experiments, the rollers can be sealed on their sides using a skimmer. The with notches furnished flanged wheels at the ends of the rollers are keeping the rollers gap dense.
